Author Instructions for Submissions

Types of Manuscripts

The Bulletin publishes via the world wide web original work relevant to the experimental analysis of human behavior; strictly applied work should be sent elsewhere.

Types of manuscripts appropriate for submission include:

Brief Reports, e.g., papers that make an original, valid, and significant contribution to the experimental analysis of human behavior, such as: research findings, either completed studies or preliminary analyses; descriptions of computer software, and how they can be used in human research; novel methods and data analyses; brief reviews of a particular subset of the literature.

Laboratory Descriptions

Technical Information

Descriptions of Research in Progress

Member Activities -- e.g., Conference presentation and poster abstracts; references to articles, chapters and books published elsewhere; grants received.

NOTE: Brief Reports are peer reviewed. All other types of submissions are reviewed primarily for clarity and appropriateness by the Bulletin's co-editors. In all cases, acceptance of submitted material is at the discretion of the co-editors.

Length Restrictions

Brief Reports, Laboratory Descriptions, and Technical Information manuscripts ordinarily should not exceed 2000 words, excluding tables and references. Research in Progress manuscripts should not exceed 1000 words. Abstracts from conference posters and presentations should not exceed 200 words. At the co-editors' discretion, the various limits occasionally may be slightly exceeded.

Manuscript Preparation and Electronic Submission

Manuscripts can be written in APA research style or summary form, whichever communicates best. Note that the Bulletin does NOT use ABSTRACTS or FIGURE CAPTIONS in manuscripts. Incorporate information typically included in figure captions into the text. For general information on preparing manuscripts for publication in the Bulletin, we encourage authors to consult the author guidelines in the January issue of the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. For all submissions, please include the name and email address of a contact person.

The Bulletin REQUIRES electronic submission of manuscripts and all other material. Please submit, as an attachment to an email, text and tables in Rich Text Format (rtf). Figures should be submitted as GIF or JPG files.

Tables may be appended to the text file, but should not exceed 3.25 X 9.00 inches when printed in Palatino Font 10 point.

Figures. Note that the Bulletin publishes manuscripts in two versions: (1) An online-readable web page, and (2) a downloadable, printable, two-column .pdf file (please see the current issue of the Bulletin for examples). For the online version, prepare figures such that they are clearly readable on a computer screen. The use of color for the online version is encouraged, assuming it adds to the clarity of the figure. Online figures should be submitted with a resolution of 72 dpi, and should not exceed 500 X 400 pixels in size. If the paper is accepted, separate black and white figures should be submitted for the printed version. Figures for the printed version should fit the column (3.25 inches) or page (6.5 inches) width. Experience has shown that merely reducing the online figure for the printed version often results in a severe loss of quality. Therefore, it is highly recommended that authors construct the GIF or JPG figures for the printed version in the size appropriate for the printed column or page width.

Printed manuscripts may no longer be submitted.
