Call for Student Papers

The Contest

Undergraduate and graduate students who have completed empirical or theoretical papers in the experimental analysis of human behavior are invited to submit their papers to the EAHB-SIG student paper contest. This contest specifically seeks to reward EAHB scholarship on basic research topics. All papers submitted are sent to reviewers who have expertise in the topic area of the student paper (many of the reviewers serve on the editorial board of top behavioral journals). All student authors receive their reviews (regardless of award status). As such, this is an excellent opportunity for talented students to receive early peer-review experience.

The Award

Award winners will…

  • Present their work at the meeting of the EAHB Special Interest Group at ABAI’s 2015 conference
  • Publish an abstract of their paper in the EAHB-SIG Bulletin (now online at http://www.eahb.org/)
  • Receive ABAI student conference registration (student member), and a handsome commemorative award presented at the SIG Business Meeting

Rules & Eligibility

  • The paper must concern basic experimental research issues.
  • The student must be the first and primary author. Advisors may provide conceptual and technical assistance, but co-authored manuscripts usually contain too much input from the advisor to qualify as a student paper. Contact the contest coordinator for more information about authorship.
  • The paper must not have previously gone through a peer review process (following submission for publication in a journal).
  • Current students and individuals who received their degree within one year of the submission deadline are eligible. Graduates can submit only papers written while they are in school. Undergraduate papers are given special consideration in the review process.
  • Submissions should be prepared according to current APA publication guidelines and no longer than 30 pages.

Submission Instructions

Students should send via email two electronic documents (as MSWORD or PDF files) to J. Adam Bennett (abennet8@eastern.edu) or Manish Vaidya (Manish.Vaidya@unt.edu)

Please Include:

  • A cover letter stating: 1) the title of the manuscript, 2) the student author’s affiliation, correspondence address, e-mail address, and telephone (home and work/school), and 3) the faculty sponsor’s name and address. If you do not receive acknowledgment within a week of your submission, please call or email.
  • A manuscript. The title page should contain only the title–no author information (we conduct blind reviews). All charts, figures, and graphs should be embedded in the manuscript.

Sponsoring or Advising Faculty should send via email…

  • An email letter from the faculty sponsor outlining the relative contributions of student and sponsor. Submitters should give their faculty sponsors early notification of this requirement, as review is contingent upon receipt.
Submission Deadline: January 1, 2015
