Types of Manuscripts
The Bulletin publishes via the world wide web original work relevant to the experimental analysis of human behavior; strictly applied work should be sent elsewhere.
Types of manuscripts appropriate for submission include:
Brief Reports: This section is for manuscripts that make an original, valid, and significant contribution to the experimental analysis of human behavior. Examples include empirical reports, literature reviews, or theoretical treatises that address issues of interest the experimental analysis of human behavior. These submissions undergo a rigorous peer-review process and, once published, are considered final publications. As such, these reports have the status as work published in print journals.
Research in Progress: This section is for manuscripts reporting work in development or progress. Examples include, but are not limited to, preliminary analyses of data and findings from pilot studies. These submissions are subject to editorial review only. These reports are not considered final publications. Authors are encouraged to acknowledge interim presentation of the data in the Bulletin in their final publication of the results.
Laboratory Descriptions: This section is intended for brief descriptions of laboratory procedures. Examples include novel methods or preparations, innovative data analytic methods, and descriptions of research strategies. These submissions are subject to editorial review only. These reports are not considered final publications.
Technical Information: This section is intended for brief descriptions of technical information unique to the study of the behavior of human participants. Examples include, but are not limited to, descriptions of particularly effective programming code, innovative methods for stimulus presentation, response detection, or contingency management with human participants.
Submissions for the Brief Reports and Research-in-progress categories should attempt to remain under 4,000 and 2,000 words, respectively. These limits do not include tables or references. We welcome all submissions — please contact the Editor if your manuscript significantly exceeds this limit. Submissions for Laboratory Descriptions, and Technical Information should attempt to remain under 1,000 words. Descriptions of member activities should attempt to remain under 500 words. The various word limits are subject to modification at the Editors’ discretion. Please contact the Editor if your manuscript significantly exceeds the suggested word limits to discuss exceptions or other solutions.
Manuscript Preparation & Electronic Submission
The Bulletin REQUIRES electronic submission of manuscripts and all other related materials. Please submit the text and tables in a standard word processing format (.docx or similar). Manuscripts submitted as Brief Reports should follow APA-Style conventions. Manuscripts submitted in other categories may be written in APA style or summary form, whichever communicates best. Note that the Bulletin does NOT use ABSTRACTS or FIGURE CAPTIONS in manuscripts. Incorporate information typically included in figure captions into the text. For general information on preparing manuscripts for publication in the Bulletin, we encourage authors to consult the author guidelines for the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. For all submissions, please include the name and email address of a contact person.
Figures. Note that the Bulletin publishes manuscripts in a downloadable, printable, two-column .pdf file. Given the Bulletin’s online presence, the use of color in figures is encouraged as long as it adds to the clarity of the data presentation. Figures should be submitted as GIF or JPG files. In an effort to avoid changes in the structure of the figures, it is highly recommended that authors construct the GIF or JPG figures in the size appropriate for the printed column or page width. Figures should either be 3″ (7.6 cm) or 6.5″ (16.5 cm) wide.
