Types of Manuscripts

The Bulletin publishes via the world wide web original work relevant to the experimental analysis of human behavior; strictly applied or non-human work should be sent elsewhere. All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process and, if published, are considered final publications.

Types of manuscripts appropriate for submission include:

Research Reports: These manuscripts should make an original, valid, and significant contribution to the experimental analysis of human behavior. These reports can include empirical reports, literature reviews, or theoretical treatises that address issues of interest the experimental analysis of human behavior that require more than 2500 words and 2 figures to convey the relevant information.

Brief Reports: The scope of these reports is similar to that of research reports, but the report requires fewer than 2500 words and 2 figures. This format is ideal for studies involving null findings, procedural trial and error, or small extensions of previous research.

Research in Progress: This section is intended for descriptions of ongoing research around human operant or respondent behavior. This section is particularly well-suited for topics such as intermittent reports on longitudinal research, pilot data, emerging experimental questions or procedures, or to gain feedback and incite conversation around work that may not quite be working out as planned.

Laboratory Descriptions: This section is intended for brief descriptions of laboratory procedures. Examples include novel methods or preparations, innovative data analytic methods, and descriptions of research strategies.

Technical Information: This section is intended for brief descriptions of technical information unique to the study of the behavior of human participants. Examples include, but are not limited to, descriptions of particularly effective programming code, innovative methods for stimulus presentation, response detection, or contingency management with human participants.

Manuscript Preparation & Electronic Submission

The Bulletin REQUIRES electronic submission of manuscripts and all other related materials. Please submit the text and tables in a standard word processing format (.docx or similar). Manuscripts submitted should follow APA-Style conventions. For general information on preparing manuscripts for publication in the Bulletin, we encourage authors to consult the author guidelines for the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior. Submit two files: a de-identified manuscript and a title page with author information/affiliations.

Figures. Note that the Bulletin publishes manuscripts in a downloadable, printable, two-column .pdf file. Given the Bulletin’s online presence, the use of color in figures is encouraged as long as it adds to the clarity of the data presentation. Figures should be submitted as GIF or JPG files. In an effort to avoid changes in the structure of the figures, it is highly recommended that authors construct the GIF or JPG figures in the size appropriate for the printed column or page width. Figures should either be 3″ (7.6 cm) or 6.5″ (16.5 cm) wide.
